3D Systems has been one of the crown jewels of 3D technology for some time now. The applications range from aerospace to medical, to industrials, to food. After the financial crisis in 2009, the stock price raced higher as people viewed 3D printing as the future of everything. While the applications for industries is growing, the competition is too. HP successfully entered the race, and before you knew it margins collapsed. As shown below, that economic deterioration was reflected in the stock price. A perfect example of how a companies operations is what drives economic value for shareholders over time.
